Capac FIRST Lego League (FLL)

2021/2022 School Year

This year our program was generously sponsored by Metal and Soul and we received a grant from the The Community Foundation of St Clair County to continue the FLL Discover and Explore programs within the schools STEAM curriculum. STEAM teacher Mr. Mark Whitney, together with Coach/Mentor Mrs. Antilla, coordinate and run the teams as part of the STEAM rotations. Students in grades Kindergarten and 1st participate in the FLL Discover program and the 2nd and 3rd graders participate in the FLL Explore program. Metal and Soul team members rotate to help mentor the teams during the school day. Each program completes with an evening EXPO for family, friends and community members. Students work hard on their projects and compete for awards.

While many COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted within the district, we continue to run the programs successfully and safely. Our Metal and Soul members along with members of other St. Clair County robotics teams will serve as judges for our upcoming in person EXPO’s. We have 18 FLL Discover teams and 16 FLL Explore teams for the 2021/2022 season.

2020/2021 School Year

Working with Administration, Metal and Soul wrote and received grants from the Four County Community Foundation (4CCF) in the Fall of 2018 to integrate the FLL Discover and Explore programs into the schools STEAM curriculum. We received an addition grant from 4CCF in the fall of 2020 to continue the program for this season.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to make a few changes in order to run the programs successfully and safely. Our Metal and Soul members were not able to mentor in person due to school district restrictions, however they communicated with the students through videos and acted as judges for our Virtual EXPO. We had 18 FLL Discover teams and 16 FLL Explore teams for the 2020/2021 season.
